Special Education Action Alert

ACTION ALERT

The Issue:

Proposed Changes to Special Education Regulations will Severely Affect Children with Disabilities!

The New Jersey Department of Education has proposed numerous changes in its special education regulations which will adversely affect students with disabilities. The revised regulations remove vital resources and safeguards for students, including  limiting the time-frame of parental review of evaluations while extending the timeframe within which districts perform the evaluations, eliminating necessary child study team members, allowing staff other than child study team members to serve as case managers and eliminating the transition resource person.  These changes will endanger the ability of students with disabilities to receive a free and appropriate education.

Action Needed:

Write to State Board of Education Members!

Registration for public testimony has closed. However, individuals who are unable to be present at the hearing may submit written comments to: New Jersey Department of Education State Board Office, P.O. Box 500, Trenton, NJ 08625-500 or https://education.state.nj.us/code/index.php?chap=14&level=f.  See the ‘talking points’ posted elsewhere on this site.

PLEASE HELP STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

RECEIVE A FREE AND APPROPRIATE PUBLIC EDUCATION!
